Garduño’s at Hotel Albuquerque: A Place to Take Out of Town Guests
Located just off the lobby of Hotel Albuquerque, Garduño’s of Mexico Restaurant & Cantina occupies a prime spot in Old Town, where tourism and tradition intersect. The original Garduño’s was established in Albuquerque in 1969 as a family-owned restaurant by Dave Garduño and his family. Building a reputation over decades for New Mexican cuisine, what began as a family operation eventually grew into a regional name, with the Hotel Albuquerque location serving as one of its anchors.
The large bar area provides a relaxed atmosphere encouraging conversation with tourists and locals alike, particularly during happy hour when live entertainment contributes to an upbeat atmosphere. Guests may enjoy classic drinks such as fresh margaritas, tequila cocktails, wine, and local beer.
The dinner menu highlights familiar New Mexican staples such as carne adovada, served as a plated dish or burrito designed to satisfy visitors seeking a taste of the region. Both red and green chile’s are intentionally mild, a clear nod to the restaurant’s tourist heavy clientele. Heat seekers may find the flavors restrained, but the chile’s still delivers the earthy character New Mexico is known for without overwhelming unfamiliar palates.
Breakfast is where portion size becomes part of the conversation. The breakfast burrito arrives generously filled with eggs, potatoes, and choice of chorizo, ham, bacon or sausage, all wrapped in a soft tortilla, with chile served on top or inside. Accompanied by rice and beans, the platter can easily be shared.
Garduño’s at Hotel Albuquerque offers traditional dishes rooted in a long-standing Albuquerque family name. Just a short drive from Mirehaven it’s not only a spot to enjoy a local meal, it serves as an easy neighborhood choice for entertaining out of town guests while visiting Old Town.
