N4N Pet Care Team

The Pet Care Team is one of the many Neighbor 4 Neighbor (N4N) Teams dedicated to supporting residents in Mirehaven. N4N’s caring volunteers are happy to step in, offering short‑term, emergency pet care for anyone experiencing a crisis that prevents them from caring for their pet.

Emergencies can take many forms—an unexpected trip out of town, a sudden illness, or any situation where you’re temporarily unable to feed, walk, or stay with your pet. Our volunteers are ready to help with:

  • Feeding
  • Walking
  • Staying with the pet in your home
  • Administering medications

Donating Pet Items

If your pet passes away, N4N can help ensure their belongings continue to bring comfort to other animals. We accept food, toys, beds, leashes, and other supplies and deliver them to local shelters.

(Please note, we cannot accept medications.)

Items may be dropped off with:

  • Bev Putnam
  • 9235 Del Webb Lane
  • 720‑201‑1490

You may also call Bev if you prefer to have items picked up.

Planning for Your Pet

One of the best ways to prepare for an emergency is to make sure a trusted neighbor has access to your home—whether that’s a key, garage code, or door code. This allows them to reach food, favorite toys, leashes, and anything else your pet may need if you’re unexpectedly away.

Silver Horizons, this years charity

March 15, 2026. Silver Horizons believes every senior deserves more than just “getting by.” Your generosity helps older adults in our community feel safe, secure, and able to remain in their own homes—where they want to be.

Silver Horizons’ mission is simple and powerful: to provide critical support to extremely low‑income seniors—and the family members living with them—by helping with life’s essentials. Your gifts fund groceries, household bills, and home repairs or safety retrofits. Each month, these core services reach about 4,000 seniors who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn.

Food is one of the most urgent needs. Thanks to donor support, Silver Horizons provides two weeks of groceries every month to seniors aged 50 and older through their food pantries and home‑delivery program. Silver Horizons also partners with churches, and other organizations to reach those who are most vulnerable. In multigenerational households, your generosity helps feed not only seniors but also an estimated 1,200 grandchildren they are raising.

Silver Horizons can also cover other infrequent needs, such as veterinary bills, so a senior never has to choose between their pet’s health and their own basic needs. Donations also pay past‑internet bills, keeping isolated seniors connected to family, telehealth, and essential services. These may seem like small things, but to a struggling senior, they are lifelines.

By attending MGB events, you can enjoy yourself, and you are doing more than helping someone survive. You’re helping them live with dignity, stability, and hope. If you’d like to donate directly to Silver Horizons visit https://www.silverhorizons.org/

Del Webb Neighborhood Watch: Keep our safe neighborhood

  • Captian's Corner
  • By John Newell

March 15, 2026. Welcome to Captain’s Corner. This is my semi-regular article devoted to what you and your neighbors can do to increase safety in our neighborhood. I’m John Newell, Mirehaven Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.

Captain’s Corner “Tip of the Month” …

Protect our neighborhood gate security by not sharing your 4-digit gate code. Instead, use your 3-digit directory access code.

Imagine

  • The other day you waved down a driver on Unser Blvd.
  • You gave him your bank card and PIN and asked him to run to the ATM and withdraw some money for you.
  • Of course, you intended to pay him for his service.
  • To your surprise, he never returned, and he drained your entire bank account. ARGH!

Good advice

The same holds true for your Mirehaven 4-digit family gate code, #xxxx.

Never give a stranger, guest or vendor your neighborhood 4-digit gate code. This code gives anyone who knows it 24/7 access to open our gates. You may trust the person you are giving your 4-digit code too, but you don’t know who may get the code from them.

Be grateful for the added security that our gated neighborhood provides, but that security depends on all of us to hold our 4-digit codes close.

Fortunately, there is an alternative.

Rather than giving out your four-digit code you can give them your 3-digit directory access code which when entered at the Del Webb Lane guest lane gate keypad, it rings your phone. When you answer, you can talk to them, and open the gate by entering ‘9’ (99’ on iPhone).

If you don’t know your 3-digit code, contact the front desk at 505-445-6304.

Easy-Peasy

Mirehaven Neighborhood Project

Food Donor Role2.jpg

Want to help Albuquerque’s food insecure in a super easy way? We invite you to join Del Webb Mirehaven’s newest philanthropic interest group, The Neighborhood Food Project.

Food insecurity remains a challenge for many in Albuquerque, with roughly one in six struggling to afford regular meals. By donating just a few items every two months, you can help to ensure that the local food pantry has a steady, year-round supply of shelf-stable goods.

What is a food donor?

To get involved, all you need to do is email kim.5rmalz@gmail.com to request your complimentary green reusable grocery bag. We’ll drop it off to you along with some useful information. Then, April 11th 8:30-9:30 a.m. we’ll stop by again to retrieve your filled bag and leave you an empty bag for the next pickup date, June 13, 2026. We’ll deliver your filled bag to the Rio Grande Food Project; our local food pantry It’s that easy!

So, while you’re out shopping simply buy a few extra nonperishable food items to put in your green bag.

  • Hearty soups and stews
  • Pastas and sauces
  • Oatmeal
  • Canned chicken or tuna
  • Rice and grains
  • Hot coco, tea, and coffee
  • Baking mixes
  • Seasonings

I am a Neighborhood Coordinator with the Food Project

Along with food donors, we also need Neighborhood Coordinators to communicate with donors, deliver green bags to new donors, pick up filled green bags from donors, leave an empty green bag when a filled bag is picked up, and drive filled green bags to the Rio Grand Food Project located 600 Coors Blvd. Feel free to email Kim at kim.5rmalz@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer.

UPDATE: The Rio Grande Food Project is temporarily closed because of maintenance issues; therefore, the Neighborhood Food Project will be donating to Silver Horizons this month. In addition to food, Silver Horizons needs toilet paper and personal hygiene products.
